The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy, instituted as a Rolling Trophy in 1956–57, is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious awards in the field of university sports. It was established to promote competitive sports among colleges and universities and to encourage institutions to invest in sporting excellence. 

Under the 2024 amendment, the MAKA Trophy is now directly linked to the Khelo India University Games (KIUG)—India’s premier multi-sport event for university athletes. 

The MAKA Trophy (as amended in 2024), with a cash award of 

  1.  ₹15 lakh, is given to the winner of Khelo India University Games.  
  1. The second in Khelo India University Games receive ₹7.5 lakh 
  1. The third in Khelo India University Games receive ₹4.5 lakh
