Building future champions for global sports events

To prepare India’s next generation of athletes for major international competitions such as the OlympicsAsian Games, and Commonwealth Games, the Government is committed to identifying, nurturing, and supporting emerging sporting talent. A key initiative driving this mission is the Khelo India Programme, organized annually by the Sports Department of the Central Government

The Khelo India competitions provide young athletes with:

  • Exposure to large-scale, professionally managed sporting events
  • Experience that mirrors the structure and standards of international competitions
  • Opportunities to compete at a high level and develop a competitive mindset

This early exposure helps athletes build confidence and prepares them for the demands of global tournaments.

Talented athletes are awarded scholarships by the Central Government. Under this scheme, every year, talented athletes are selected from the Khelo India competitions and provided with modern training, with an expenditure of Rs. 5.00 lakhs per year for the next eight years by the Central Government.

These awards celebrate the dedication and achievements of athletes who bring pride to the state through their performance in Khelo India competitions.

Medal-winning athletes will be honoured with cash prizes of Rs. 5.00 lakhs, Rs. 3.00 lakhs, and Rs. 2.00 lakhs, respectively by State Government.
